Goldeyes, rain eliminate RiverHawks

LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Winnipeg Goldeyes took the Rockford RiverHawks to the brink of elimination from postseason contention. Weather pushed them over the edge.

The Goldeyes blew out the RiverHawks, 15-2, in the opener of a scheduled doubleheader on Rockford's final home date. The nightcap was cancelled because of a heavy thunderstorm.

The cancellation mathematically eliminated the RiverHawks from contention for a Northern League playoff spot. Gary clinched one of the two remaining spots with the Rockford loss. The rainout at Road Ranger Stadium gave Joliet the last of the four postseason spots by default. The cancellation also guarantees a second straight losing season for the RiverHawks. Rockford had not finished below the .500 mark in any of its first seven years in the Stateline.

Brett Wallace, Justin Justice and Juan Diaz hit home runs for Winnipeg. Victor Diaz homered for the RiverHawks.
