July 13, 2006 - EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Another Frontier League All-Star Game came down to the home run derby.

The West Division rallied late, scoring a run in the ninth inning to tie the game 4-4. The regulation 9-inning game ended that way, and as is the Frontier League rule, a home run derby decided the game.

The East Division went first, sending Ian Church, Pete Peavey, and Ray Gill to the plate. But the trio combined for just one long ball during the contest.

Beau Blacken, hitting at his home park in Evansville, smashed the first two pitches to him over the fence to give the West the victory. The win means the West Division champion will have home-field advantage in the Frontier League Championship Series.

Garrett Bauer started the game for West manager J.D. Arndt and pitched a scoreless inning. Dave Dowling pitched got one out in the third. Mike Marksbury worked a scoreless seventh.

Despite the good pitching from RiverHawk pitchers, the East grabbed an early lead when Kalamazoo’s Ian Church hit a grand slam in the third inning off Windy City’s Mike Mlotkowski.

The West got one back in the fourth inning, but it was still 4-1 going into the eighth inning.

Gooby Gerlits hit a double in that frame, and he scored when Windy City’s Clemente Bonilla hit a home run to cut the deficit to one.

The West tied it in the final inning with a leadoff single from River City’s Eddie Guessford and an RBI double from Blacken. Joe Anthonsen had a two-out single in that inning as well.

Outfielders Nick Johnson and Rico Santana also played for the West side.
