August 24, 2006 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Former members of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, depicted in the movie A League of Their Own, will be at RiverHawks Stadium on Saturday, August 26. That league counted the Rockford Peaches among its teams, and the Peaches were the last baseball team to win a championship in Rockford until the RiverHawks captured the 2004 Frontier League crown. They will have great opportunities for fans to get great baseball memorabilia and help out a good cause.
Fourteen former players have confirmed their attendance at the event. They will be signing autographed posters before the game for a donation of only $6. There will also be a raffle to give away some great prizes, including autographs from members of the Baseball Hall of Fame, autographed items from Team USA, a jersey from USA Baseball, a child-sized Rockford Peaches uniform, a Wilson baseball and softball glove, an autographed bobblehead depicting a Rockford Peach, and more!
The AAGPBL members will be signing autographs when the gates open at 5:00 p.m. until the game starts at 7:05 p.m. The raffle will take place during the game. All of the proceeds will towards a reunion of AAGPBL members that will be held in Rockford in 2007.
The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 10-team independent professional baseball league in its 14th season.
