RiverHawks to host prep state tourney games

January 8, 2007 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Regardless of how the Frontier League season goes, RiverHawks Stadium is guaranteed to host postseason baseball this year.

The Rockford RiverHawks announced today that the Illinois High School Association has agreed to hold both its supersectionals at RiverHawks Stadium. The Class A supersectional is scheduled for May 28. The Class AA supersectional is June 4.

“We’re honored to host one of the state’s elite baseball events,” general manager Josh Olerud said. “Whether or not those student-athletes eventually play professionally, they will always be able to say they took the field at a professional stadium.”

Teams that survive the supersectional advance to the eight-team state finals. Last year, Rockford Boylan advanced from a Class AA supersectional and lost in a state quarterfinal.

The RiverHawks are the Western Division champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 15th season in 2007. Advertising, season-ticket and suite information is available by calling the box office at (815) 885-2255. Fans can also visit the RiverHawks online at www.rockfordriverhawks.com.
