RiverHawks shut out Otters, 11-0

July 29, 2006 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks took advantage of wild pitching to beat the Evansville Otters, 11-0, on Saturday.

The RiverHawks matched their nine hits with nine walks, in front of 3,020 at RiverHawks Stadium. Rockford scored three times off three walks in the first inning and six times off three more bases on balls in the third inning.

Rockford leads second-place Evansville by 4½ games in the Frontier League West.

Evansville starter Landon Brazell (3-4) threw 10 straight balls to begin the Rockford first. Bo Flowers and Jason James walked on four pitches each. Rico Santana blooped an RBI double into right field and Nick Johnson followed with a two-run single.

Brazell (3-4) walked six batters in two-plus innings. He left after issuing back-to-back walks to begin the third inning. Jake Bowen broke the game open with a two-run double to left.

Brad Dutton added a two-run homer, his first professional home run, in the fourth inning.

Tanner Watson (6-4) scattered five hits, struck out five and walked one over seven shutout innings.

The series continues at 6:05 p.m. Sunday. The Rockford Register Star and Great Lakes Baseball Academy sponsor Family Night. A family of four can get tickets, hot dogs and soft drinks for $40 total. Kids run the bases after the game.
